What Can Cause Back Pain?

October 24, 2009

Chronic back pain is becoming more and more common and though most of us can, at some point in time face it. A number of factors can increase the risk of suffering from it. These risks can emerge from a number of factors, from your “bedroom antics” to everyday habits that you’d never think would affect the condition of your back.

Mid back pain normally becomes more common with age, but this does not mean that you have to accept it as part of becoming older. And it is not just the older folks that are more prone to it, as often it is those in their 30’s and 40’s that can develop pain, as well. We see this more among those in poorer physical condition. When supporting muscles are allowed to become weak they may not properly support the spine.

In your 20’s and 30’s, you are more likely to suffer back pain from being involved in sports or having an exercise regimen that is a bit more strenuous than your back can stand.

Another reason for the onset of mid back pain is from activity which is related to types of work. Having a job that requires heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling, particularly when you must lift and turn at the same time can lead to strains and pulled muscles. On the other hand, working at an inactive job where you’re sitting for long periods during your working day can cause or contribute to pain.
