Car Accessories

November 25, 2009

A lot of car accessories have sprung since the last 60 years.  During the 50s and the 60s, car accessories were mostly made for the car’s mechanical and exterior.  At the most, speedometer and fuel gauges were not as common in cars in those days compared to the modern cars of today.  Even mudflaps or stereos did not always come with every brand new vehicle.

Car owners of the 1950s and ‘60s have learned to add several car gadgets to their own cars to put in both purpose and convenience.  These persons often referred to as greasers or grease-monkeys.  A number of modifications were done to their cars or their parents’ cars to fine-tune them and make them look more personalized to their own style.  Accessorizing cars back then involved replacing and taking out parts and replacing them with sufficient or more impressive car accessories or parts.  Modified cars like these are usually labeled hot-rods.  From then on, different car makers have built-in parts and accessories that were not originally included.

Every generation of cars get better in terms of horse power, efficiency, comfort and convenience.  A car engine’s power and performance have been improved all throughout the years with newly discovered composite materials and the way it’s built.  Efficiency in terms of a car’s fuel consumption have in part been dictated by economic and practical causes.  In the course of the 1970s oil embargo to western countries, a lot of earlier manufactured cars which consume significant amounts of gasoline have lost their market appeal in favor of smaller and more economical automobiles.  With petroleum prices on the rise again, people are buying cars that is made with a much lower engine displacement while enjoying a number of car amenities we take for granted nowadays like car stereos, automatic windows, and cup holders, most of which were uncommon luxuries from cars made during the 1950s-70s.

One particular form of car accessory which is supposed to decrease a car’s fuel consumption is called the super turbo charger.  This car gadget can fit at the palm of your hand and it is installed between a car’s carburetor or EFI manifold and the air filter.  The device claims to reduce air pollution and cut gasoline consumption by 50%.

Some car accessories provide additional functions to make cars look more sleek and for road travels to be more enjoyable.  Some car accessories serve as protection just like those car door guard edge strip.  Not only are they cheap, they’re also effective.  This strip of rubber may save you and your insurance a large amount of money in case you accidentally hit another car with your door.

Car gadgets and accessories have provided different functionalities and conveniences for car owners worldwide.  With these gadgets, drivers and passengers can sing along to their favorite digital tracks, pass the time by watching movies and recharge their electronics in their car when needed.  With the improvements of cars, so will different innovative car accessories and products.
