Facts About the Beautiful Islands of Hawaii

The 50th state in the United States is made up of a string of islands collectively known as Hawaii, but the largest of the islands is also known as Hawaii. This often causes some confusion. For a better differentiation, a lot of people simply name Hawaii island the big island. The Hawaii islands are in reality the result of underground lava formation beginning in the base of the sea and building upwards until the magma extended above the depths of the Pacific Ocean.
There are eight islands inhabited in the string of the Hawaii islands with some others tipping their sides out of the water, but they are not inhabited. Nihau, the north west-most island of the string is the smallest of the settled island and the big island is located to the furthest southeast link in the chain of the Hawaii islands. Oahu is home to the state capital Honolulu as well as there are almost any things to do in Hawaii for holiday makers, chosen by former ruler King Kamehamea due to the closeness of the natural harbor, now well-known as Honolulu Harbor.
Kauai, Molokai, Lanai, and Kahoulawe are the other lands in the Hawaii islands and last not least travel to Maui. Transportation between these islands is provided by air or boat with the bigger islands having airports taking large commercial airplane and others smaller, commuter aircraft.
With the islands of Hawaii beginnings followed back to barren lava growing, it is theorized that the nature helped bring life to volcanic land by wind streams, by flying birds and in the water. When the first human habitant came for Polynesia in about 500 A.D., plants and animals had already taken possession of the island and recent conservation methods have ensured the continued growth and stable habitat for the native species.
The Hawaii islands became an fundamental strategy for the Air Force and U.S. Navy, still before Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941. While still home to U.S. military bases, which provide a large population with civilian job opportunities, it is also home to the monuments for the soldiers who perished during the attack.
The population of the islands of Hawaii has grown hugely, especially since becoming a state in 1959, as the nosecount in 1910 registered a population of about 154,000. Habitants have grown to over 1.2 million in 2000. Hawaii vacation tours are an overwhelming trip to the only U.S. state completely surrounded by the ocean and is located around 1,500 miles away from mainland at the west coast of California.
