Cherished platinum wedding rings for that unique wedding day

May 28, 2010

Platinum is a very rare and beautiful metal that has being increasingly used for making platinum wedding rings over the past two centuries. It is a strong and malleable metal and is the perfect one for making wedding bands and rings, as mens platinum wedding bands are both beautiful & highly resistant to wear & tear.

During courtship, youngsters preferred to exchange silver rings as they weren’t as expensive as the others; they have thus developed an affinity for white pieces of jewelry but now desire something a bit more upscale. Enter platinum rings!

The quality of platinum is decided mainly by its purity. More than 30 % of all wedding rings bought in current times are made from either white gold or platinum.

Most of the designs that you would come across in bridal magazines would be based on platinum. Some people are allergic to gold & other precious metals.

Most couples in recent times are not going in for matching wedding bands. Platinum is commonly alloyed with iridium or ruthenium to make up the other 5 to 10% of the ring.

There are three main factors that need to be considered by the couple while finalizing their wedding rings – the metal, the gemstone and of course the budget. Good quality platinum wedding rings dent or scratch lesser than rings made of gold or other metals.

It is also important that it fits you well so that the ring is worn very comfortably. Most platinum jewelry develops a natural patina or matte effect over time. This can be corrected by having the ring polished by a qualified jeweler.
