The Best Abs Equipment is Cheap and “Old School”

September 6, 2010

These days, a lot of costly equipment is being hawked on late night television that promise to get you those ripped abs; however the best abs equipment is not one of these products. These products can give people some results, but unfortunately not as good as some of the things we have used for years. So what do I consider the best abs equipment? I will talk about the three best in this article.

#1 The Classic Chin-Up Bar

The best abs equipment available by far is the chin up bar. As you hang and lift your legs at the same time, you are getting a fantastic abs workout. Have you ever noticed a gymnast’s abs? Nothing forces your abs to contract more strongly than a hanging leg raise. You don’t see many people perform them, because it isn’t an easy exercise. Most people do not have strong enough cores to do more than one or two lifts. Whether you do hanging leg raises with your legs bent or with legs straight, it will eventually create a carved mid section. I’ve long been a fan of this technique, and the recent release “Convict Conditioning” has only affirmed what I’ve long felt to be true. Paul Wade, the author of “Convict Conditioning”, points out that some of the best abs are found on those who are serving time in a penitentiary, and they rely heavily on the hanging leg raise.

#2 The Ab Wheel

You can get a cheap old school ab wheel for under $15 in almost any sporting good store. Using the ab wheel will strengthen you core as well as your abs. In addition, you will also increase your abs’ ability to keep your spine safe. Your abs will be incredibly defined if you use an ab wheel to perform ab roll-outs and a chin up bar to perform hanging leg raises.

#3. A Cushioned Floor Mat

I was almost tempted to list this as number one. But, if you work out on carpet, you might not actually need an exercise mat. That being said, a good exercise mat will make every floor exercise more comfortable. You’ll feel less sore if you use a floor mat for such exercises as a lying leg raise. Same with planks. Personally, I complete all my ab exercise sessions with 1 or 2 sets of planks. If I make the attempt without a mat, it can be excruciating.

Just Three Simple Pieces Will Give You a Better Ab Workout Then Any Infomercial Gadget

If you can only get one piece of abs equipment, I would suggest the chin up bar. With a quick Google search, you’ll be able to find several low cost models that can be easily installed in your home. In addition to your hanging leg raises, you can also use the bar to pull some chin-ups and shape your upper body as well. If you want to find the best abs equipment, skip the new junk and look to the classics.
