Hybrid Vehicles: A History

January 27, 2012

With respect to history, pollution originating from cars has been a problem ever since. Japanese auto producers have found an effective way to handle the pollution created by cars and that is to engineer hybrid cars. Uncover exactly what events happened this day in history. Discover day-to-day events that occurred in history.

The largest 15 naval ships found on earth pollute the environment more than 750 million cars. It’s incredible that one giant transport ship has the ability to pollute the environment as fifty million cars. Nevertheless, the interest of all the governments is pointed at the individual vehicles, since they are polluting in the big cities, not in the "green" zones of the oceans. In 1990, Toyota came up with the notion of a hybrid car. They wanted to develop a car that did limited damage to the planet. The car these designers created was the Prius and it was among the first hybrid cars on the market but overall sales have not been outstanding.

The Prius happens to be wildly successful in the United States but has been experiencing tepid sales in Japan and in Europe. The percentage of hybrid car sales in countries in Europe is almost the same as high end luxury cars at less than 1%. Do you want to know what happened on this day in history? The embracing of hybrid cars in Europe isn’t readily established like the United States. There are no incentives for consumers to purchase hybrids plus they are much more expensive than regular cars. The only "bonus" that people get is a reduction in the pollution tax. The price distinction between a hybrid car and a normal gasoline car in the same class is considerable.

Studies have shown that the type of people who drive hybrids are people like doctors, lawyers and engineers. They like these cars due to the low gasoline consumption. An example is the Lexus RX 450h hybrid SUV where it comes with a powerful 300 horsepower engine but uses less gas than your basic 1.4 liter automobile. Did you know that the RX 450h was introduced in 2009 at the Los Angeles auto show. To get different dates and also important historical events check out this day in history October 25. Numerous car makers today have their unique lines of hybrid cars, like Opel has the Ecoflex, Ford has the EcoNetic line, and Volkswagen has the BlueMotion line. This specific phenomenon is also seen in the case of diesel vs. gas. Although diesel vehicles also consume much less fuel, diesel fuel tends to cost more per liter than regular gasoline. Statistics show that the majority of Europeans want to drive the more powerful and less expensive gasoline car than a hybrid or diesel car.

In the beginning, the Japanese and Americans were not really big on hybrid cars once they were first introduced, like Mercedes initial line of Blutec models, which were considered cancer causing and toxic. But let’s not forget the thousands of trucks that are on the streets since the 80’s and how they must be removed.

The third era of Prius posseses an impressive 89 grams per kilometer of CO2 emissions which certainly is the same as a Smart diesel car but much bigger. In addition the Prius happens to be the one hybrid that can function on electricity only for 1 kilometer with a speeds up to 50 kilometers and all for a price of 30,000 Euro.
